I’ll definitely order this bread again. It’s hard to find good rye bread in the U.S. that’s crusty and dense inside (like it should be). This one is definitely in line with German taste and consistency requirements. At the same time, some Americans may not care for the density of the bread.

I put in my first order mostly to get the imported German pretzels, which my husband loves getting at local festivals. The German flour works better with his gluten intolerance. We ordered many other items and absolutely loved everything! I’m a former bakery owner and these breads are fantastic. The pretzels are Oktoberfest-worthy, and we loved the Swiss Farmer Loaf, the pumpkin seed rolls, and the potato-carrot rolls. We will definitely order again.

The consistency is good however the very flat loaf shape with the rough surface crust makes cutting the bread to get slices off very problematic. A smoother crust and a thicker loaf that wasn’t so squat would facilitate a bread knife being able to cut off slices much more I suspect. Looking good for photos isn’t equal to good as a bread for cutting and eating.

This is good bread. When it first came out of the oven, I was skeptical because the crust was too hard and crunchy and inside the bread was too light and airy. But since then, the loaf I baked lost those qualities and the real taste and texture came through. It was best on days 2 and 3.

My Dad owned a German Bakery in Canada when I was a kid so I’m a little biased. After baking, the super thick crust is too much for my taste. Rye bread is already dense enough in my opinion.
